The Welsh Open 2006 took place last weekend in Cardiff, as ever, at the same time as a rugby international. The winners were: Chris Farren and Jessica Davies (sabre); David Mansour and Emanuel Martine (foil); Jon Willis and Corinna Lawrence (epee). Wales won the rugby against the Pacific Islands 38-20. The best fencing event on the domestic calendar in terms of quality of fencing, fantastic organisation and good company. I am rather late in posting about this event which took place in mid-October, but I shouldn’t let it pass entirely without notice. (more…)
British Nationals 2006 July 18, 2006

Last weekend (15th and 16th July) saw the British fencing national championships take place at RAF Cosford. The winners were in women’s epee, Georgina Usher; men’s epee, Alistair Gerrard; women’s foil, Dominique Stowell; men’s foil Richard Kruse; women’s sabre, Louise Bond-Williams and men’s sabre Alex O’Connell. Gateshead and Northumbria international June 18, 2006

This weekend saw sabreurs, epeeists and foilists fighting it out for world cup points at the Gateshead International Stadium. This competition is part of the Coupe du Nord, a satellite world cup series based in northern Europe. The winners in the sabre were local fencer Chris Farren and Malgorzata Kozaczuk from Poland.
