A recent report on the BBC website reveals there has been a 22% long-term decline in visits by students to their university and college libraries. This equates to an annual fall of 3% apparently. Now as Reivers would confirm there are lies, damned lies and statistics, but does this study tell us anything? (more…)

It could be straight from the pages of my favourite chronicler, Orderic Vitalis. Two nuns in Greece have been murdered for their monastery’s treasure. This week, the team rector of Southampton city centre parish who also happens to be the chaplain of Southampton United Football Club was attacked by one of the Saints’ fans. (more…)

Readers of the more teaching-related posts will have noticed that both Reivers and myself can rant a little. I’m not sure if I have ranted at length anywhere about the position of those on the very bottom rung of the ladder, but reading a post on the Just Higher-Ed blog, linked from jobs.ac.uk reminds me that if hourly-paid people don’t stick up for ourselves, we can’t expect others to.
