Monograph finished December 22, 2006

I have finished the book in time for Christmas and it has been posted to the publishers. I feel a tremendous sense of satisfaction and it was a pleasingly large and, I hope, scholarly pile of paper that was squeezed into the envelope. I have no idea when it will be coming out, but finally, I can start something new. I’ll be blogging about my latest projects in the New Year.
Call for papers ‘Labels that Stick’ December 18, 2006

‘Labels that Stick’, a workshop on people, objects and the problem of description will take place on 22 January 2007 at the University of Southampton. Although it is short notice, suggestions for 20 minute papers are welcomed. The call for papers can be found here.

The Theoretical Archaeology Group (TAG) conference takes place at the University of Exeter this year. On Saturday afternoon, I will be taking part in a session about medieval material culture, which will see the launch of a new network designed to facilitate dialogue between different groups of people (archaeologists, historians, museologists) working in this field. It promises to be very exciting, and I for one, am looking forward to the debate.

Advent is here: a time of preparation and of reflection, which traditionally marks the beginning on the church’s year. I look forward to Advent every year, not because Christmas is at the end of it, but because I like the season itself. There is a tremendous sense of purpose about it that is lacking in the seemingly unending Sundays after Trinity. The church is getting ready to welcome Christ on earth and there is work to be done.
